How to calculate your life path number by hand
The life path number is calculated from your month, day and year of birth. Each part is reduced on its own by adding its digits until a single digit remains (the “digital root”). The master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are kept and not reduced further. Then the three results are added and reduced the same way.
Example: July 29, 1990
- Month: July = 7 → stays 7.
- Day: 29 → 2 + 9 = 11. Eleven is a master number, so it is kept.
- Year: 1990 → 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1.
- Add the parts: 7 + 11 + 1 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1. Life path 1.
If you add all digits at once (7 + 2 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 37 → 10 → 1), you get 1 as well here. For some dates the two methods differ – especially when a master number appears in a part only. The calculator above shows you when that happens.

Sources & method
- Inputs: month, day and year of birth. The life path number is “calculated using your month, day, and year of birth” (numerology.com, Life Path Number Calculator; checked October 2026).
- Reduction by digit sum (digital root). Digits are added repeatedly until a single digit remains; numerology uses digital roots, “but certain numbers deemed to have occult significance (such as 11 and 22) are not always completely reduced” (Wikipedia, “Digital root”; checked October 2026).
- Master numbers 11, 22 and 33. 11 and 22 are kept as described above. Treating 33 as a master number as well is a common convention that this calculator follows; not every numerologist does (status: October 2026).
- Calculation path: month, day and year reduced separately. Month, day and year are each reduced first, then added and reduced again. Adding all digits of the date at once is another method in use; if it gives a different number, the calculator shows that result too. Which method to use is a convention of this calculator, not a rule from a source (status: October 2026).
- Personal year. Birth month + birth day + current calendar year, reduced to 1–9; the year is taken from your device's clock. Some numerologists count the personal year from birthday to birthday instead – convention of this calculator (status: October 2026).
- Price of the report. €7.00 one-time (status: October 2026).

Frequently asked questions
In numerology, the life path number is the number derived from your full date of birth. It counts as one of the most important numbers in a numerology chart and is said to describe your basic character, talents and the themes of your life. It can be 1 to 9 or one of the master numbers 11, 22 and 33.
There are two common methods: reducing month, day and year separately (used here) or adding all digits of the date at once. Usually both give the same number. They can differ when a master number only shows up in one of the methods – for example a birth day of 29 (= 11). Our calculator shows you the result of both methods whenever they differ, so you can see why.
11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers. In numerology they are not reduced to 2, 4 or 6, because they are seen as intensified versions of those numbers with more potential and more pressure. If your life path is a master number, the calculator also tells you the base number it contains.
The birthday number comes from the day of the month you were born, reduced to one digit (11 and 22 are kept). It is said to describe a special talent. The personal year adds your birth month and day to the current year; it runs through a nine-year cycle and is used to describe the theme of the current year.
No. Numerology is a tradition of interpretation, not a science, and there is no scientific evidence that it predicts anything. Many people use it as a playful mirror for self-reflection. Please do not base health, money, legal or relationship decisions on it.
